The Commission on Population and Development Region 10, in partnership with Community Improvement Division – Cagayan de Oro and Philippine Ports Authority, conducted a KATROPA Session with the members of Macabalan Wharf Porters Association (MWPA) in line with the celebration of the Population and Development (POPDEV) Week last November 26, 2019, at the New Passenger Terminal Building, PPA, Macabalan, Cagayan de Oro City.
In a statement, Regional Director Jeremias C. Gupitemphasized the importance of the participation of husbands and men in raising children, being a responsible spouse or partner, and planning for the family size.
“Despite exhausting work, men should not just go home and wait for their wives to serve them but also to be of help with their wives at home,” said RD Gupit.
Also in the same event, Mr. Rolando V. Butaslac of the CID CDO presented the rationale of KATROPA and emphasized the need to involve men in the promotion of gender equality, women’s empowerment, and family development.
The participants were further encouraged to advocate for the modern views on the roles and duties of men in society being frontrunners in maternal health.
The manager of the New Passenger Terminal Building Ms. Jessica Angeles gave her closing remarks and gratitude to POPCOM for conducting the session to the 50 men of MWPA as it is a big help to them in carrying out their roles and responsibilities in the family
