The commitment and dedication of the Commission on Population and Development Region X (POPCOM X) and its LGU partners has resulted to significant heights of accomplishments amidst the challenges that hit the country due to health crisis.
In its efforts to help couples achieve proper birth spacing and attain their desired family size, POPCOM X intensified even more its campaign for responsible parenthood and use of family planning methods to avoid unplanned pregnancies.
From January to November 2020, ninety-four thousand three hundred fourteen (94,314)couples were reached for FP information and services through home visits, RPFP outreach activities and caravans, RPFP clinic, and other RPFP sessions. Achieving this accomplishment is already 96% of the year-end target despite the pandemic.
In addition to this, ten thousand five hundred forty (10, 540) eligible married women of reproductive age (MWRA) referred by the Barangay Population Volunteers to health facilities were provided with family planning services. This is about 48% of the twenty-two thousand fifteen (22, 015) couples in POPCOM’s regional database identified as unmet need. Unmet need refers to couples wanting to use family planning but is still not using any contraception, among the modern family planning methods; implant is mostly preferred by women followed by injectable.
POPCOM X will continue to pursue its mandate to reach out couples and help them achieve their desired family size. The Commission believes that by helping couples achieved the number of children they want to have in context of their financial capabilities, we are helping them enjoy better lives. Responsible parenthood and family planning (RPFP) empowers Filipino families, and empowering Filipino families is the mission of the Philippine Population Program.
