Press Release

In celebration of the Population and Development (POPDEV) Week, the Philippine Society for Responsible Parenthood (PSRP) launched rh-care.info on November 26, 2020 through zoom conferencing with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM).

The rh-care.info is an online platform that aims to raise awareness about the reproductive health of Filipino families and facilitate their access to information and services.

In Region X, on top of the projected 83,000 unplanned pregnancies without community quarantine, the data from University of the Philippines Population Institute (UPPI) shows that there will be an additional 10,000 unintended pregnancies until the end of 2020 in the region as family planning (FP) services are significantly impeded because of lockdowns and limited mobility due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In spite of the challenges of the health crisis, POPCOM-X continues to explore ways in order to reach couples and individuals by providing information on responsible parenthood and family planning (RPFP), and adolescent health development (AHD) for the teenagers.

With the help of the media, particularly the online platform rh-care.info, clients will be given correct and adequate information on family planning, maternal health, sexually transmitted infections, gender-based violence, adolescent reproductive health, and other reproductive health and wellness concerns. The information hub contains advice, information articles, and first-hand accounts of Filipinos in relatable situations.

Users of the online information hub can choose to express their concerns on the chatbox or opt for online consultation through Facebook messenger. One of the most important features of the online hub is a health facility locator that directs users to the nearest facility where they can access the services they need.

On the other hand, PSRP likewise created group accounts in Facebook, Twitter, Telegram, Viber, and Instagram in order to facilitate greater interactions and channel more in-depth conversations on reproductive health. Moreover, a YouTube channel may be accessed by clients who wish to watch information materials on family planning and reproductive health.

The launching of the online platform is in line with the Philippine celebration of the National Population and Development Week or otherwise known as Population and Development (POPDEV) Integration Week every November 23 to 29, in accordance with Presidential Proclamation No. 76, S-1992 signed into law by former President Fidel V. Ramos.

A total of 56 participants from different private companies in the region were able to register. Their participation was made possible through the collaboration effort of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 10.
