“Usap Tayo sa Family Planning” is the theme for this year’s celebration of the National Family Planning Month strengthened by the Joint Memorandum Circular No. 0001 series of 2021 signed between the Commission on Population and Development and the Department of Health, with the following four (4) sub-themes: Usap Tayo sa FP so you can Practice Safe Sex; Usap Tayo sa FP para sa HIV-Free Pinas; Usap Tayo sa FP dahil ang Pamilyang Planado, Protektado; and I choose #MalayaAkongMaging.

In observance of this year’s Family Planning month, POPCOM-X, together with its local partners, had a boost of its demand generation activities and outreach programs catered to municipalities and cities within the region, through the conduct of Progestin Sub-dermal Implant (PSI) Trainings held last August 4-6 and 11-13 in some barangays of Cagayan de Oro City; an FP outreach activity in Claveria, Misamis Oriental; the Family Planning Wellness Clinic situated at the Regional Population Office grounds, which accommodated a total of 62 clients for the month of August, 47 of which are PSI acceptors; and its persistent information drive both in social media and in conducting home visits.

One highlight of the celebration was POPCOM-X’s collaboration with its media partner: Strong Radio and its service arm, the Kusgan Volunteers Inc. (KVI). The partnership paved way to a Family Planning Caravan that was piloted at Barangay Canitoan last August 20 which included food packs distribution to residents whose livelihood was affected by COVID19.

Last August 25, POPCOM-X also had a special event with the revival of its weekly radio program in Strong Radio bearing the title “Ang Kaugmaon” with none other than POPCOM-X Regional Director Neil Aldrin Omega as the first guest, who discussed timely and relevant topics on Responsible Parenthood and Family Planning (RPFP) and even the alarming cases of teenage pregnancy in the country. This only shows that despite the current health crisis, POPCOM-X is true to its mandate as it is firmly committed to intensify the promotion of the Philippine Population and Development Program and to continue addressing the reproductive health concerns of every Filipino citizen through uninterrupted provision of family planning services even in the midst of a pandemic.
