In celebration of the Family Planning Month, POPCOM and the Local Government Unit of Quezon Bukidnon organized the Buntis Congress and Family Program outreach activity on August 27, 2019, with the theme “Kaligtasanni Ina, Kinabukasanngmga Bata.”

Two-hundred (200) pregnant women participated in the series of lectures on the importance of prenatal and basic concepts on responsible parenthood. Meanwhile, one-hundred eleven (111) clients availed the free service on the Progestin-Only Subdermal Implant (PSI) provided by POPCOM 10 Family Planning Team in coordination with the equally trained service providers of Bukidnon and its municipalities.

The activity was spearheaded by POPCOM Region 10, in partnership with Municipal Health Officer Dr. Lea Catalan, Dr. Evangeline Revilla, and FP Coordinator Mary Ellen Dandasan. Present likewise in the program were the provincial, municipal, and barangay health workers, volunteers, nurses, and midwives.

At the same time during the activity, the ALAGAD Mindanao, an alliance of organizations and individuals engaged in STI, HIV and AIDS prevention, care and support, also took part in conducting human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) screening. The special testing aims to promote understanding of HIV as a manageable disease thus break the stigma against person-living-with-HIV (PLHIV).

POPCOM 10 has identified key activities up to December this year that will advance and intensify the awareness on RPFP thereby producing a quality population that will lead to a more progressive region. Also, the agency continues to strengthen its efforts in order to attain and maintain the zero unmet need of the couples and individuals of modern family planning especially in the remote communities
