A strong partnership with Local Government Units (LGUs) is the impetus of a successful implementation of any government program. POPCOM-10 recognizes this fact and has been doing advocacy activities to the LGUs and stakeholders to maintain harmonious relationships, and create an enabling environment on addressing population and development concerns.
Recently, POPCOM-10 Regional Director Jeremias C. Gupit made a courtesy visit to the Local Chief Executives of Catarman, Sagay, and Mahinog in Camiguin province. Director Gupit discussed with the Mayors the Philippine Population Management Program (PPMP) Plan of POPCOM-10 for 2018. This includes a thorough discussion on EO 12 which is the Commission’s priority project for this year.
Catarman Mayor Nestor A. Jacot & RD Gupit had an interesting discussion with regards to the Mayor’s stand on the Population Management Program. Mayor Jacot is a staunch supporter of the Family Planning Program as well as the Adolescent Health and Development he issued a Memorandum to Ms. Rosalina G. Calingasan, MPO-designate to perform her functions in addressing the unmet need in the municipality. The Mayor also signed an EO organizing the Municipal Implementation Team (MIT) in his municipality.
On the other hand, Sagay Mayor Joseph G. Uayan, PhD., RN., revealed how young people used public toilets to satisfy their sexual urge, so he padlocked some of these toilets. As a politically-willed Mayor, he dared to distribute condoms in the market place because of the alarming sexual risk behaviors of young people. Part of the mechanisms his LGU had put up to assist him to solve adolescent reproductive health problems, the Provincial Government of Camiguin allocated P 300,000.00 for the establishment of a school-based teen center in Sagay. Director Gupit expressed his appreciation to the Mayor’s open and unequivocal support to the Family Planning Program as well as the Adolescent Health and Development Program.
