The Commission on Population Region 10 conducted a two-day Gender Sensitivity Training (GST) on January 21-22, 2016 at De Luxe Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City. The participants of GST were the twenty (20) staff of the agency. POPCOM-10 OIC/Regional Director Neil Aldrin G. Omega together with Mr. Jeremias L. Cabasan (Information Officer III) and Ms. Ann M. Sumalpong (Planning Officer II) facilitated the training.
There were five (5) modules discussed in the training namely Key Concepts in Population Management, Key Concepts on Gender and Development, Common Gender Issues in Population Management, Gender Mainstreaming to address issues in Population Management, and GAD planning and budgeting.
The training deepened the participants’ knowledge and appreciation of gender and development. During the training, the facilitators were able to discuss and explain the following; definition and differences of sex and gender, different types and manifestations of gender issues, the definition of gender equality and equity, gender mainstreaming and GAD planning and budgeting.
Director Omega emphasized the importance of capacitating the staff on gender and development. “Being an advocate of population and development, we have to ensure that all our programs are gender-responsive”, Director Omega said.
