The Commission on Population Region 10 celebrates the 2nd birthday of the six (6) 100 Millionth Babies of Region 10 on July 27, 2016, at Jollibee, Limketkai Mall, Cagayan de Oro City.

Aside from the Regional Director of POPCOM-10 Mr. Jeremias C. Gupit who headed the celebration, Dr. Ellenita N. Gamolo, Medical Officer IV of DOH-10 and Ms. Marissa D. Navales, National Provincial Coordinator of National Nutrition Council (NNC) attended the activity. Dr. Gamolo gave a message to the parents and attendees of the celebration. She encouraged the parents to take good care of their babies, advising them to always visit the nearest health center for health monitoring. Part of the celebration was weight monitoring and nutritional counseling conducted by NNC.

The 100 Millionth Baby Project started in 2014. It was the year when the Philippine population had reached 100 million mark. POPCOM Executive Director Dr. Juan Antonio A. Perez III saw this population mark both an opportunity and a challenge. “An opportunity that we should take advantage of and a challenge we recognize. POPCOM, DOH, and other partner agencies have been monitoring the status of these 100 Millionth Babies to ensure the provision of their basic needs, after all their health and status will represent, one way or another, the situation of all Filipinos”, Dr. Perez said.

The birthday celebration of symbolic babies was one of the highlights of the World Population Day Celebration this year. Other activities were TV and radio guestings, hanging of tarpaulins, and press conference. POPCOM-10 requested all Local Government Units (LGUs) in Northern Mindanao to hang streamers and conduct population-related activities that would hold drum-beat the meaning of this event.
