The Responsible Parenthood and Family Planning Program of the Commission on Population is gaining ground in its implementation especially with the lifting of the TRO on all modern methods of contraception. POPCOM is reiterating its commitment to fully implement the RP-RH Law and continues its advocacy to Local Government Units for their support.
The Commission on Population Region X has issued the 2018 Guidelines for conducting demand generation activities. The guidelines are in response to Executive Order No. 12 issued by President Rodrigo Duterte which requires critical actions to achieve and sustain “zero unmet need” for modern family planning for all poor households by 2018.
POPCOM 10 is committed to reach 90,000 couples and educate them on Responsible Parenthood and Family Planning. The strategies adopted by the Commission are through the conduct of demand generation activities such as RP-FP classes, Adolescent Health Development classes, Pre-Marriage Counseling Sessions, Learning Package for Parent Education classes and KATROPA.
POPCOM has also engaged with the Population Services Pilipinas, Inc. (PSPI) and IMAP (Integrated Midwife Association of the Philippines) to counsel and serve couples with Unmet Need for modern family planning.
The above demand generation campaigns will be done by 1,500 Population volunteers and Barangay Health Workers with the supervision of the Provincial/City Population Offices.
