The Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM–Region X) conducted the “Handog Pasasalamat sa mga Padyak” or locally known as “trisikad” drivers from Barangay Carmen in Cagayan de Oro City on May 29, 2020.

The activity aimed to recognize their contribution as frontliners of local transportation transporting passengers safely to their destination despite the threats of COVID-19. The “gift-giving” was a small gesture of gratitude voluntarily given by POPCOM personnel to the drivers for their dedicated service to the commuters amid health crisis.

In the same activity, the recipients were provided with short orientation on responsible parenthood and family planning (RPFP). Strict measures to ensure safety were applied in such a way that the audience was grouped by 10, body temperature check, wearing of masks, washing of hands, and physical distancing were all observed.

POPCOM-X Regional Director Jeremias Gupit in his opening statement stated that, “in time of crisis wherein couples cohabit for a long period of time due to quarantine, it is important to practice any of the natural or artificial family planning methods to avoid unintended pregnancy and the negative impact to the social and economic life to the family.”

With safety standards implemented, they were provided with one (1) pack of dressed chicken and 5 kilograms of rice. They were also given facemask, advocacy umbrella, and information about the services offered by POPCOM thereby encouraging their family members and acquaintances to avail of such services.
