Valencia City Barangay Population Volunteers taking oath

“The Commission on Population and Development Region 10 in collaboration with the local Population Office of Valencia City conducted training on responsible parenthood and family planning to fifty (50) Barangay Population Volunteers (BPVs) to assist and help couples achieve their desired family size through modern family planning methods”, Regional Director Jeremias C. Gupit said.

Aiming to build and nurture “Matatag, Maginhawa, at Planadong Pamilyang Pilipino,” POPCOM has various capacity-building activities for the BPVs to support their community work of providing accurate FP information and services particularly among poor couples and individuals.

One of the functions of the BPVs is to conduct house to house visits and reach out to married couples of reproductive ages, to validate and check if they are using modern family planning methods and if not, motivate them to come up with informed choices and refer said couples to the health service facility for counseling. The volunteers will also monitor and profile the status of unmet needs for family planning in their respective barangays.

The training was conducted last March 26-28, 2019 at Valencia City with funding support from the local government of Valencia City.
