At least 38 teenage pregnancy cases annually are being recorded in the Municipality of Aloran, Misamis Occidental according to the data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in 2015-2017. It further reveals that Aloran ranks 8th (5.7%) out of the 14 municipalities of Misamis Occidental with an increasing number of teenage pregnancies.
To reduce the incidences and prevent repeated pregnancy, the Commission on Population and Development Region X launched a presentation with the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) of Aloran recommending the additional financial and technical support for Information Service Delivery Network (ISDN) and operationalization of teen center through a set of policies.
In his opening statement during the SB committee session last February 12, 2020, Assistant Regional Director Neil Aldrin G. Omega highlighted the importance of policies in strengthening the teen center and the information system which caters to the necessities of the adolescents on sexuality and reproductive health.
POPCOM X believes that policymakers are an important key factor in developing the interventions against teenage pregnancy and other related issues on population management, especially in Misamis Occidental.
As a result of the meeting, the municipal legislators of Aloran expressed their support to the strengthening of ISDN and teen center through an ordinance providing additional budget and support on human resources.
Meanwhile, POPCOM X will expand its participation during SB and Sangguniang Panglungsod (SP) sessions in the different areas of the region all throughout the year to foster and propose sound policies to ease the teen pregnancy cases.
