The Commission on Population Region 10 celebrates Family Planning Month with the theme “Breastfeeding and Family Planning: Keys to Sustainable Development.” This theme highlights the importance and benefits of breastfeeding not only to infants, but to the whole family.

Breastfeeding or lactational amenorrhea (LAM) Method is one of the natural family planning methods which is commonly used by mothers especially in our country. It is universally available to all postpartum breastfeeding women and is proven to be 99.5 % effective. The use of lam contributes to improved maternal and child health nutrition.

POPCOM-10 Regional Director Jeremias C. Gupit conducted courtesy visits to three (3) municipal mayors and governor of Lanao del Norte on July 18, 2016. He visited the municipalities of Linamon, Kauswagan, and Bacolod. After brief talks with the three (3) Local Chief Executives (LCEs), he proceeded to the Office of the Provincial Governor. RD Gupit had fruitful discussions on population programs with Governor Imelda Q. Dimaporo.

During the courtesy visit, RD Gupit discussed with the LCEs some raging population related concerns like unmet need on family planning, rising incidence of teenage pregnancy, proliferation of STI, HIV and AIDS, and others. He emphasized the need for POPCOM to establish a strong partnership with Local Government Units (LGUs) to address these issues. “This strong partnership will lead to the smooth, effective, efficient, and productive implementation of the population program at grassroots level”, RD Gupit said.

The four (4) LCEs appreciated the effort of POPCOM-10. They expressed full support on the implementation of various population programs in their respective areas

Cagayan de Oro Mayor Oscar S. Moreno expressed support on ICV on FP during the courtesy visit of POPCOM-10 Regional Director Jeremias C. Gupit on August 4, 2016.

I respect the freedom of choice of couples on Family Planning”, Mayor Moreno said. He advised the City Health Office (CHO) to make all FP methods, natural and artificial, available in all Barangay Health Stations (BHS) in the city.

During the courtesy visit, Director Gupit had also expressed concern on the rising incidence of teenage pregnancy and STI, HIV and AIDS in the city. To address the said problem, he opened to Mayor Moreno the concept of establishing Information and Service Delivery Network (ISDN) on Adolescent Health Development (AHD).

The Commission on Population Region 10 celebrates the 2nd birthday of the six (6) 100 Millionth Babies of Region 10 on July 27, 2016 at Jollibee, Limketkai Mall, Cagayan de Oro City.

Aside from the Regional Director of POPCOM-10 Mr. Jeremias C. Gupit who headed the celebration, Dr. Ellenita N. Gamolo, Medical Officer IV of DOH-10 and Ms. Marissa D. Navales, National Provincial Coordinator of National Nutrition Council (NNC) attended the activity. Dr. Gamolo gave message to the parents and attendees of the celebration. She encouraged the parents to take good care their babies, advising them to always visit the nearest health center for health monitoring. Part of the celebration was weight monitoring and nutritional counseling conducted by NNC.

On its 14th search this year, the National Youth Commission, as one of the organizers, strongly supports the search for the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) in the Philippines.

TAYO is a Filipino term for “WE” and it is also the acronym for “Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations” (TAYO) Awards. It is the Philippine's only award giving body that recognizes and supports the outstanding contributions of youth organizations to the country. It aims to recognize, reward, and encourage youth organizations all over the country with programs and projects that help their communities. It inspires to find innovative solutions and to challenge status quo through the organizations to which they belong.

As an institution, the TAYO Awards Foundation has successfully gained credibility and prominence in the recognition and support of extraordinary and outstanding contributions of youth organizations in the country. Since its inception in 2002, it has attracted more than two thousand youth organizations from all over the Philippines to join the search. These exceptional groups have contributed to the development of their local communities, schools and workplaces, through their innovative and valuable projects.

The call for applications in this year JENESYS 2016 ECONOMICS BATCH 2 – TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS AND SERVICES has officially commenced.

The Japanese Government, through the Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE)and the Japan Information and Cultural Center (JICC) of the Japanese Embassy in Manila, and in partnership with the National Youth Commission, is implementing the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths Program 2016 (JENESYS 2016 Economics) Batch 2, which aims to promote a global understanding of Japan’s economics, society, politics and foreign affairs, and to further deepen mutual understanding among the youth of Japan, ASEAN, Timor Leste, and India.

The program is scheduled on September 25 – October 4, 2016 in Tokyo, Japan. NYC will be nominating 12 colleges and master’s students.
