GenderSensitivity

RPO-10 provided technical assistance to the LGU of Lanao del Norte on the training on “Gender Sensitivity and introduction to Gender Analysis Mainstreaming”.  This activity was funded by the local government of Lanao del Norte and held last October 27 to 29 at the Luxe Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City. Two (2) RPO-10 staff gave technical assistance as resource persons. Thirty-five (35) department heads and supervisors of PGLDN attended this 3-day activity. The topics of the training were:  Basic gender concepts, gender socialization, gender issues, violence against women and children, pursuing gender equality, gender analysis and mainstreaming gender in the local plan of PGLDN. The participants appreciated the training. They were very thankful to POPCOM-10 for sending two (2) resource speakers that provided the technical assistance they needed.

PeerEdMaramag

To capacitate the youth volunteers of the Maramag Teen Center, POPCOM and DOH-10 conducted this training last November 17-19 in Maramag Bukidnon.  Sixteen (16) youth Peer Educators and four (4) Guidance Counselors attended this training.  There were also participants from the people with disability (PWD) and out-of school-youth.  The training focused on “Shape and Usapang Barkadahan” modules developed by POPCOM, DOH and other partners of the AHYD program.  There were also topics given to enhance the communication and leadership skills of the youth volunteers.  DOH funded this 3-day training. POCOM-10 counterpart was technical assistance and overall management of the training.

RPO-10 has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Municipal Mayor of Aloran and Aloran Trade High School regarding the establishment of a Teen Center in the area.  In the MOA,RPO-10 committed to give counterpart funds for the center amounting to P250,000.  The LGU also gave P200,000 and the school also shelled-out P50,000.  Last November 11, POPCOM-10 delivered the check worth P250,000 to Aloran during the formal turn-over ceremony wherein, other office equipments were given by POPCOM-10 to Aloran Teen center. Equipments given to the said Center were:  Electric Fan, guitar, LED TV “22”, DVD player, scrabble board game, chess and checker set.  Tables and chairs were also given to ATHS for the Teen Center.

To develop a Pre/Post-Marriage Counseling (PMC) Supplemental Guide for the Manobo IPs, POPCOM Central Office and the Regional Population Office-10 conducted a series of activities to come-up with a PMC manual appropriate for the Monobo IPs.  After a series of coordination meetings such as team building activities with leaders of IPs and writeshop to draft the said manual, --a validation workshop was done last October 6-9 in Maramag, Bukidnon.  Twenty-three (23) participants from the two (2) tribes called Lantongan and Polangiyen commented the draft of the manual and validated the correctness and truthfulness of the information written in it with consideration to the cultural values and practices of the Monobos.  The workshop was facilitated by the consultant of the project hired by POPCOM Central Office.

This training was conducted on October 5-9, 2015 at De Luxe Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.  This was attended by 11 Program Coordinators (PCs) of RPO-10 as well as 14 provincial and city population officers.  Total of twenty-five (25) officers attended the training. This has increased the knowledge and skills of the participants on basic demographic concepts and measures in relation to population and development program. The participants were taught about Spectrum System software, Demproj and RAPID Model.  Knowledge about these softwares is very important for the P/CPOs as it will help them in processing and analyzing POPDDEV Data needed for planning and evaluating programs and projects.

The Regional Population Office-10 conducted an orientation on the RP-RH Law on October 9, 2015 at the Barangay Hall of Barangay 35 in Cagayan de Oro City. Twenty-four (24) barangay officials attended this activity. The barangay officials were oriented on the elements and the important provisions of the RPRH Law. The frequently asked questions (FAQs) about RPRH Law were also answered during the orientation.  In the open forum, the participants expressed gladness for having been informed about the law especially that as barangay officials, they are mandated to implement RPRH in their area.

POPCOM-10 and Deped-10 conducted Regional Festival of Talents (RFOT) on December 7, 2015 at the event center of Centrio Mall in Cagayan de Oro City. The highlight of the activity was the Regional POPQUIZ in which, all POPQUIZ winners in the Division level came to Cagayan de Oro to compete in the Regional round. The RFOT had four (4) contests: essay writing, poster making, jingle writing and singing, and POPQUIZ. The general theme of this year’s RFOT is “Investing in Young People is key towards sustainable development”. The sub-theme for essay writing, jingle writing and singing, and poster making was “Shape and Honing One’s Future for Greater Opportunities”. The winners received plaques and cash prizes. The 1st placer of each contest will represent Region 10 for the National Festival of Talents in February 2016 in General Santos City. Below were the winners of the contests:
