The Commission on Population Region 10 (POPCOM-10) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) collaborated to empower young people through the conduct of U4U facilitators’ training.
First batch of U4U Training of Trainers was on February 7 to 9, 2017 at Hotel Conchita, Cagayan de Oro City. The 22 participants were students of Bukidnon State College and Central Mindanao University and young employees and volunteers of Local Government Units (LGUs) and Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines in Bukidnon. Four (4) other batches will be trained come April this year.
These participants will serve as U4U facilitators to all U4U roll-outs in the province of Bukidnon. U4U is an interactive learning activity in which young people learn responsible sexual behaviour and healthy lifestyle. It is one of the information strategies of POPCOM to contribute to the reduction of teenage pregnancy and prevent spread of STI, HIV, and AIDS.
DSWD provided financial support and POPCOM-10 provided resource persons for the training. U4U will be rolled-out in all municipalities in Region 10 and this year, POPCOM-10 and DSWD targeted 100 roll-outs to reach out 12,000 adolescents about reproductive health and responsible sexuality.
